Any Parrot Owners ?

Post by Gary406 »

any parrot owners on here ?
just bought a new member for my family, a ducorps cockatoo, its like a little baby wants attention 24/7 .
unbelievably tame with humans .
but at the same time unbelievably expensive
bought it from a good mate of mine whos owned it for 5 years now . he bought it a baby and paid £1300 for it
sold it to me for £500 7 days ago.

best pet one could ever own . sits on your shoulder all day long and cuddles up to you if your lied on the sofa
hes about 1 foot in length

Would love a parrot!
My Uncle was given one a few years back but he had to give it away because it had a temper, could imitate the phone and used to abuse him

I think the final straw was when he fell asleap and the parrot took it upon itself to remove all the edging of the mat he had in his living room in less than 30 mins

ye some parrots are not good. and can be nasty.
only reason i bought this was its baby ways . very very tame with any human that touches it .

can get to much tho cos if you put into cage it will make very loud noise levels untill u take it back out.

I thought this was going to be about some mobile phone applucation or sat nav or something and I was going to chip in "no but the've got a love bird down the vet's" I0m ooribably the only person that talks to it :(

They had one in the house I lodged in for a few years, it never said feck all but mimmicked the chean-smoking landlady xoughing her guts uop perfectly. They're bothe dead now, so it goes :(

(apologies for the shite typing, I can't be asked to turn the light on :P )

ive owned 2 parrots,

one was a nasty swine, you can tame them if they go back to wild state, you will hear it Growel if it turns,

they can get jealous, one of the sighns of that is plucking its own feathers out,

iused to put some of the old cars my lad didnt play with anymore in bottom of the cage,
a parrot will play with them for hours,

My dads got an African grey called billy (after my late grandad) he's brilliant on times he'll sing advert tunes from the tv, bark like the dog and it confuses the feck out of him and the cat he'll laugh/cough like my dad and you'd swear my dad was there even though he's out the garden or not even in the house... he's mastered tunes from kids programmes like ballamory he's really funny to listen to BUT he says feck all when i'm there only goodbye when im on the way out the door.

Only time i hear him is if i act like i leave and sit upstairs listening :| or i'm on the phone to my mam and he mimics her laughing.

Down side though he's bit me, he's very territorial when it comes to my dad (in other words he hates my mam) and a few weeks back he bit the old man.

They will also out live you the greys life expectancy is 100 years if i remember right my dads is 8 years old now and he's nearly 60 so i better brace myself for a parrot that will love me cleaning his cage.

african greys are the best talking parrots out all the parrots but there not really a good "family" pet
there more of a 1 person bird and they bond to only 1 person

my mam has a 11 year old grey. it talks better than my 3 year old daughter

i owned an african grey years ago but had to get rid of it. nasty and bighting all the time

Mine used to open its wings, bow down and stare at you,
then it wouid launch itself at you, ialways had a towel ready ithink the chap that originaly owned it was cruel to it,

somedays it wouid be fine and some it was just mental,
the female one we had wasnt aproblem, good as gold

only reason igot rid of them was the nasty one we had bit my neck iwouidnt fancy that to happen on a child couid be lethal :(

Bit like my border collie then he'll do anything for me but runs the wife in circles... Dont get me wrong the parrot is brilliant and is warming to me (think he dislikes people who wear glasses) but i can just see him living here when i clean his cage or leave him out cos my dog drives him bonkers.
