Thieving git*

Post by D9406 »

My neighbour knocked on the door this morning at about 8 to tell me my exhaust was hanging down, looked underneath to find some bas*ard had sawn through the pipe with a pipe cutter and nicked the cat. They trolley jacked under the sill, crushed the seam and stole fu*k all else. Police arrived within half an hour, unable to get forensics but said this was the first residential theft on their patch. Car was parked 10 feet from house on driveway.
Co-incidence this was the first day of Cheltenham Races and it's hangers on?
Ebay selling exhaust pipe cutters, like a filter wrench but with a cutting disc at every joint.

theyre sent to china, poland etc to have the precious metals out of them reclaimed,

Phoned round the local exhaust fitters and was quoted from 280 to 400 quid for a cat fitted, so should be a lot less from the factors. I still have quite a long MOT so will be fitting a straight pipe to connect the two ends together, around a foot or so missing, for now and will fit a new cat for the test.
Local police normally see them nicked from 4X4's and commercials but to use a trolley jack on a drive is unusual. I reckon a minute to do the job and away. 200 excess for theft so wont be claiming as it would probably affect NCB. New security lights now fitted. No one heard a thing, police say one of those exhaust cutters will go through a pipe in a quarter of a turn and no noise. Would like to see what it could do to the bast*rds wrist.
Calmed down now.

You don't need an cat fitted to your car to pass MOT. I removed mine after I got the car as I thought it was blocked. Car has went through 4 MOT tests since & no mention of the cat even though its obvious where I welded in the bypass section.

Bonus was getting £50 from the local scrapyard for the old cat. :cheesy:

I used to work in a place near the scrappy & several times the pikeys stopped on their way with an old car . They would borrow a hacksaw to cut out the cat as the scrappy would only pay if it was off the car!

I thought that under the new MOT if your car should have a cat it must be fitted. Can anyone confirm this?
If the answer is yes I am going to look into fabricating a cat guard.

I'm pretty sure that's a yes. It doesn't mean they can tell if it contains anything though
