Guinea Pigs tend to sit still when they're frightened. Wouldn't recommend setting a dog on them.

If we had that many rats the food hygene place would have us closed down within a week. Rat bait points need to be baited regularly and records of it have to be kept. I havent seen a rat about the place in ages, up the fields is full of rabbits, although the odd rat can be seen, the dog usually just kills them but never eats them, whereas he enjoys eating the rabbits.
For that many rats, keep the dogs away and just get the shotgun :cheesy:

The worst bit about the rats is the weils disease they apparently piss constantly as they walk so if you touch something they walked over and eat it, its not good. A man kept fishing line in his garage and a rat must have walked over it, when he was fishing instead of cutting it with pliers he used his teeth and got the disease. Don't ever try and lift one of them a bite or scratch from the buggers is just as bad.

I was thinking that where the dogs have had them in their mouths wouldn't they they pass on infection to us? we always touch dogs heads and they always want to lick us in return!

When the dog shakes the rat there must be piss flying everywhere? I hate rats and mice :frown:

Thats a big worry with a dog licking, and they all do it when you pet their head, if you stop they lick your hand for more, and if they jump up they lick your face, and potentially with whatever disease the rat had. Its a good thing dogs get slower when they are older he doesn't do it so much anymore.

As for warehouses, if they deal with food they should have bait points and a qualified pest control specialist is supposed to regularly top them up and check the area for signs of them, then records of it need to be kept. At least thats how it is round the farm. But not all places would be careful, even out in the orchard the apples that fall on the ground (windfalls) have been there a while and rats are known to eat apples, and its the windfalls that end up in cider and apple juice. The factory that buys the apples says the apples are sterilised and filtered.
