It's alive!

Post by steve_earwig »

Guess what I finally finished
Image

Yep, I finally put the bike back together 8) 8) 8) I'll need to import it but my mate Goran persuaded me into a quick ride up into the hills and I thought it might be a good idea to see if it goes ok, before I start opening my wallet at customs & excise. Unfortunately, due to a missing sign, Goran got us lost and we did 75 miles, mostly on twisty, grit-covered, pot-holed, disintegrating roads. My back ached, my arms ached, my arse ached and I was completely exhausted by the time I got home. I loved every minute :cheesy:

The bike went ok, much better than expected to be honest. I had a bit of a missfire opening up between 1,500 and 2k but, after we stopped off for coffee at Japetić there, it just went and the bike was back to its traditional "pulling like a train"-ness.

Btw the wife's in Germany just now, so there's a few things I can get away with: I'm also driving a certain Peugeot

Incidentally, for those straining their eyes trying to read my 'plate, it's J406 LKJ. It's a shame I'll be loosing it soon :(

It might be :supafrisk:
"All home-made:
-Wine
-Brandy
-Eats"
It's actually the tourist centre (there's mountaineering and paragliding in Japetić) and is part of the fire house. Hold on, why isn't it a half-finished ruin surrounded by rubbish like this one? :frown:

Nice looking bike mate, love the plate. 8)

Do you really want to bring it over here with the new laws they're trying to bring in for bikers? High viz jackets which means if your in a club you loose your identity when on the road, all brakes/tyres etc have to be the ones factory fitted and all work has to be done by a registered garage (it will be illegal to do work on your own bike)

What a load of wa*k!!!!!

That there Bike, looks a kinda cross between a Sports Bike and almost an off-roader (with it's long sussy travel) I'd imagine it would suit the taller rider, even to the point of being designed "around the rider" if you like.

It must be suited well to rougher roads and the torque from that 2-cylinder 850cc motor must make it a breeze :)

I used to have a neigh-bore with a Super Tenere? 750? that thing was quick and looked comfy too is that engine a relation of yours?

It won't be going back to Blighty, the plan is to import it here. I saw about the high viz sillyness on the forum, although it's unclear just how much reflective stuff you need to have. Also, it only seems to apply to bikes over 125cc, riders of smaller bikes are, presumably, expendable. It's bound to come here though, it seems like the stupider the new EU legislation is,the keener the Croat government is to implement it themselves

The TDM850's engine is more or less the same as the XTZ750's, just bored and stroked out to 849cc. I think the usual classification is "adventure sports" but it doesn't really fall into any category, it's too tall & bulky for a sports but too bleedin' heavy for off road (but that doesn't stop some owners) so yes, basically somewhere in the middle.

Oh looky: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_TDM850
The TDM 850 was the first motorcycle which was designed around the rider...
Yamaha wanted to create a motorcycle which was capable of handling the mountain roads of the European Alps and that would cope with the sometimes not so smooth road surface.
Sounds like my Saturday ride out
0–100 km/h, around 3.8 sec.
Maybe that's why my arms hurt :supafrisk:

In my mind it's a load of bollox, never been into bikes myself but have a few biker friends and love the tv progs like sons of anarchy etc (so much so i got my own cut)  ... I cant see why they're doing these new rules without saying that cars need them too

There was a demonstration yesterday in Wales it started at pont abraham services at the start of the M4 west of Swansea and finished in Cardiff a good 25 maybe 30 miles, it was all about these new bike laws it's ruffeled a few feathers and i dont blame them for being fooked off.

Even though i had to cut me holiday short so i could get to the M4 before 1pm.
