61 plate Peugeot 308 windscreen cracked

Post by Roylewaa »

My dad bought a Peugeot 308 from our local Peugeot dealer on Tuesday for £11k, he part ex'd his 57 plate 308 (which they gave him £5k for, 2 grand cash deposit and the rest on finance

I went up to see the car tonight for the first time and the first thing I noticed is the windscreen is quite badly cracked at the bottom, Its fairly out of direct view but I noticed it straight away, My dad didnt know about it and was fairly peeved

Anyway he plans to contact the dealer on Monday regarding hopefully having the windscreen replaced as I would imagine once the temp really drops the cracks will quickly worsen

I'm suprised as the car was supposed to have had a 150 point check (or whatever it is called) :frown:

Is he likely to be fobbed off or have any trouble from the dealer?

Thanks for any help and advice

idont think he will have aproblem altho it wouid of been better if the cracked screen was brought to there attention before it left there premises,

as theres finance on the car youve got 7 day of which you can hand the car back (Reject it)
if they dont replace the screen iwouid ask for a full Refund, a Windscreen shouid of come into the Check,.

Perhaps a Mechanic/or employee as smashed it and walked away, it might not totaly be down to the Manager he/she may of not known if someones kept there gob shut,

I would go back to the dealer and politely ask for it to be replaced foc, if payment is asked for I'd be speaking loudly about refunds.

Not sure how you stand if they claim it happened after purchase.

Shame it's so new as you could have checked the mot advisories on an older car to see if it was on there.

When iworked for Vauxhall, we had to do a Pdi on cars before they where allowed off the premises,
Iwouid ask for a copy of the PDi.

Windscreen is part of the PDi. Cracks /chips have to be noted,

I mentioned it to him regarding having the windscreen changed on his insurance as he is fully comp with a 100 quid excess on his windscreen cover, He said he would try the dealer first as the car is only a year old and he's had it 4 days and hopes he can have it replaced under the warranty

the nature of the cracks (they'res 4 of them travelling from the black base of the screen to about a centimetre under the passengerside wiperblade) they will spread

Sorry about the double thread btw, my broswer crashed :(

Sorry about that, I hijacked it because you'd made two threads about the same thing and I thought the other one was scrap. Then Lozz posted 308 window stuff into it...

I guess I need to get the dustpan & brush out.

Edit: Better?

I've never bought a car that's had a PDI done on it, I reckon they're either going to cough to it or say something stupid like "it weren't like that when we sold it pal" but if that's the case, as Lozz said, your pa could wait a bit then claim it on the insewerants - I think most of them cover windscreens without it affecting the ncb nowadays but probably best to check.

If the dealer places any sort of value on reputation they should repair the car free of charge.

Have a read of this....http://www.cardealermagazine.co.uk/publ ... 2750/52909

I've seen this around a few times now, just found it again, might be useful to anyone with a dispute against a car dealer.

Thanks for all the info chaps :)

My dad took the car to the dealers this morning, they were full of apologies and promptly booked the car into their workshop to have the windscreen replaced free of charge, They removed the bottom window trim and it was fairly cracked under there, they reckon the screen has been put in slightly incorrect and out of alignment which has caused the screen to crack at the weakest point. So i'm guessing they've come across the problem before

They gave him a 12 plate Peugeut 207 1.4 sportage to play with until monday

Nippy little thing with a great sporty spec, although I could'nt believe they still use the TU engine
