2002 HDi 90 Stuttering
Has anyone got any suggestions as to why my car might suddenly stutter when being driven at a constant speed on the motorway ? The symptom is like there is suddenly a drop in power for about 2 seconds, but keeping the foot down the car will suddenly recover. It doesn't kangaroo, cough or die (yet) but it looses a lot of power. Could it be a faulty MAF ? Also does and HDi 90 have a lambda sensor or is this a petrol only thing ? Any help much appreciated.
The car is gutless and slow, but is perfect for my 160 mile a day round trip commute! So much more refined than the trains.

there is no oxygen sensor (lambda sensor) in a diesel exhaust due to the fact that there is never any oxygen content in the exhaust, only the very late HDi 110 with FAP and the HDi 2.2 136 have sensor in the exhaust, and these are only to messure the pressure before and after the particle filter

I kinda suspected that the Lambda thing wouldn't apply so thanks for the clarification on that one.
The fuel filter is probably due now as it'll have gone 24K without a change and I'm about 500 miles away from a service - approx 3 days of commuting for me! Now you've mentioned this, I seem to remember a few years back an old Golf Gti having the filter beginning to break up through lack of maintenance by the previous owner casuing the engine to refuse to rev.
Is there only the one fuel filter in the system, where abouts is it and what does it look like (so I know they changed it!) ? I'll get this changed at the service.
Thanks guys.
