Did I miss much?

Post by Welly »

Was on me Hols in Spain last week (yes it did start raining* on Thurs + Friday  ) *rain - definition: bloody pissing it down vertically, horizontally, upside down, backwards

The weather was perfect before all that at around 29degC and breezy - spent most days relaxing on the Beach and watching the world go by.

Did a stint of Go-Kart racing http://www.avkarting.com/AV_KARTING/HOME.html with my Son and Daughter and chose the 80 KMPH machines - that was a lot of fun and I managed a 38 second lap (we were the only 3 people there 8) ).

The Hire Car was a real shitter - a Ford C-Max petrol (approx 1.6?) that thing had 50,000 KM's on it but seemed to be, no, was, falling to bits  it had a 'collection' of interior trims in the boot which'd fallen off, the clutch was worn, it was woefully slow and pinked all the time, it had a horrible blind spot thanks to the stupid A-pillar design which caught me out a few times and was just generally sh*t cheap and tacky - I would NEVER buy one with my own money.

Any way nice to catch up.

Welcome back to sunny England, oh and Autumn, (which is defined as a period of horrible grey drizzly weather we're not supposed to moan about, as distinct from summer, a period of horrible grey drizzly weather we're expected to moan about).

While on my travels in the northern Costa Brava / French border area, I was amazed at the number of hookers touting for business, even in mid-afternoon, at virtually every junction. (Recession, or what, I don't know).

I also suffered a fracas c-max hire shed about 6 years ago in Menorca, it was slow, thirsty and generally unpleasant. Menorca was lovely though - clean, devoid of unattached teenagers and populated by people who actually like us!
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Oh tell me about it; I don't get the Spanish on the Costa Blanca - their income is chiefly from Holidaymakers yet they treat us so badly :( one of the big Supermarkets where we were staying have instructed their Staff NOT to speak in English if anyone asks for help - Oh hello I've just flown in from the UK and obviously have detailed knowledge of your stocked goods and where to find them  I witnessed this myself in trying to buy some Steak from the meat counter......."Sir, I've TOLD you already about the different (unmarked) cuts of meat in double-speed SPANISH - what else do you want?"

Regarding the Spanish economy; I saw quite a few beggars on the street this year mostly holding up signs describing their plight (In English  ) with their hands out asking for money. In fact it is the expats over there who have set up a free food charity to give to the Spanish people who are struggling at the moment.
