Not necessarily but it all depends on the revs it's doing when it lets go, they are designed to break the followers instead but there was a 2.2 HDi on the coupé club forums a year or so ago that bent a few valves too.
Can't help you with the flywheel on a 2.2 but it seems a common thing on the 2.0 and I've never heard of one giving issues.

As steve says, you're unlikely to get away completely with a timing belt failure - they only need changing every 90k, so prevention is better than cure.
Had the clutch & DMF changed on my previous one at about 175k, due to early signs of clutch slip and an upcoming european holiday. The DMF was worn to about the point where it should have been changed, but it had done a lot of miles, including 50k after being remapped. Replaced with an OE clutch & DMF - it's there for a reason and they don't have a reputatoin for being troublesome on these cars. I would never fit a solid one.

Unlikely but can happen, mine snapped about 5 weeks ago when i was doing 70mph, 8 of the followers snapped, replaced these along with cambelt, waterpump, tensioners and aux belt and all is running fine again.Doggy wrote:you're unlikely to get away completely with a timing belt failure

Re: 2.2 136bhp timing belt
You were lucky there, methinks. Apart ftom the coupe tale of woe steve related, I can vouch for the fact that the 90k=miler that donated it's injectors to my previous car was scrapped following a timing belt failure.
Good to know you can get away with relatively minor damage though.
