Eventfull week

Post by hammerman »

Well,my 406 SE now has 182k miles on it.The air con packed up the other week.I had it re gassed at work for £50.The machine sucked 130grams of gas out of it,& put 620 grams back in so in nearly 10 yrs it had lost quite a lot of gas,but not bad considering I`ve never had the system touched.
Then on thurs morning on the way to work a had a coming together with a kerb, smashing a chunk out of my mint alloy, bending the lower arm, breaking the foglight & splitting the washer bottle.£60 for a new lower arm,£24 for a brand new fog,£24 for tracking & £90 for a set of 4 nimrod alloys,2 with new tyres,1 nearly new tyre & 1 tyre on the limit. The alloys are not as mint as mine but no major kerbing, but could do with a re paint.I needed 2 new front tyres anyway so reckon I have got a bargain.I will keep 2 of the alloys, will keep 1 as the spare & do away with the steel spare wheel.I will sell the other 2 alloys,so if anyone wants them, let me know.I will sell them in a few weeks when we come back from holiday, but will let the forum know 1st.

OUCH! :(

Similar to what I did in the snow

Was it an eBay lower arm? My eBay on was £60 too; Euro wanted £150. My mechanic said there was a difference between the two, but I can't now remember what is was.

That's a rare old chunk out of the alloy. Why four new ones? Could you not find a single? I guess they're a lot harder to find than corail. That's still a good price for four -- and with some useful tyres.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Hi, that is very bad luck indeed, although you paid quite a good price for 4 16" alloys with a couple of good tyres. 16" steels are very hard to find, so maybe forum / ebay it first?
Do you need a replacement washer bottle?
I am stripping a Hdi110 2003, not much left but do have the washer bottle if you are looking for one.

I got the 4 wheels as they were a good price and very local to me so I could pick them up.Corail alloys? Are they the 7 spoke 16" ones?I found a set of them on the bay for £115 with tyres, but by the time I went to buy them they were sold. The 16" rims I have are very common as they were fitted to 206 gti`s,allbeit with 195 tyres, but if they are listed as 206 gti wheels they are £160+ for 4
The lower arm was from GSF.You can get them on ebay £25 new,but I needed 1 asap.As for the washer bottle, its split on a unused connection, possibly for headlamp washers.I have put some water proof sealer around it & will try it in the morn,if not I wil let you know Ginger.

No worries. The Corail wheels are the 15" ones with removable centre caps, on most 406s. I am after a set of Hoggars ( smooth 16" 7 spoke, mostly on later 406s and coupes ) or 17" challenger ( 307 ) or vortex ( 206Gti ) similar looking but different profile tyres.

Ah,the hoggars are the ones I saw last night that sold.I`ve always liked them.Theres a 53 2.2 hdi on ebay with them,in the same colour as mine, with the burnt orange leather that I love.I really wished I brought those wheels before we went out  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-406-2 ... 41721bc38a

Beware of Hoggars - they're centreless, and as such can be a bugger to get balanced properly. Nice looking wheels though.

I was told of this but as they came with the car I thought I would stick with them - just need a spare set for summer tyres.

I got part worn tyres fitted, then went to Tyreland or somewhere else reputable, to get them Nitrous filled and balanced with stick on weights.
