Striped hub threads
Can a tap and die set be used where the wheel nut threads have been stripped in the hub, if so what size is required for a 406?

Re: Stripped hub threads
Umm, if the thread's knackered I don't think re-cutting it's going to be safe
I also think they're odd threads that you won't find a tap for that easily.

Re: Striped hub threads
Its only a bit of an issue on the breaker 406, the back wheels can only accept 2 bolts each.
It must take quite a bit of carelessness to do this to all the wheel nuts, if they cant be tapped out then i assume the hubs are scrap?

I guess it doesn't matter if the car's only going to be driven across fields but if you put it back on the road you'd really need to do something about it. Yes, they're almost certainly scrap, unless you get some bigger bolts..

They look like M12 x 1.25. Was thinking it might have been possible to re-drill a new set between the old ones, but from the sketch on Service Box, it looks like the hub has 4 thicker webs where the tapped holes are. Helicoils maybe?

Re: Striped hub threads
you cannot retap it if it's stripped it wont work, a helicoil kit would work you can get them for about £25 and normally come with everything you need, drill, tap, coils and once done is as good as new.
