PP2000 doesn't solve everything.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

PP2000 doesn't solve everything.

Post by Malc »

After doing a complete PP2000 diagnostic on my lhd 406 hdi it registered replacing a new outside temperature sensor normally on rh wing mirror plus a motor blower control unit (ebay just less than £40 new for both) but after replacement the a/c compressor clutch still didn't kick in.
Decided to bridge the compressor clutch wiring simply by puncturing the +ve wire (in my case coloured brown) with a small pin at the compressor connector and running a wire from the pin to battery +ve.
First go the clutch clicked immediately so then with a/c on and blower at auto I started the car then intermittently tapped the battery +ve watching the compressor clutch (marked with a white dot of paint) rotate happily each time I reconnected and within mins the car had cooled to ice-cold.
Conclusion A/C system is well charged and the pressure relay is sound but the BSI relay is naffed.
I have a spare BSI but with PP2000 I cannot get past the required "pin code" and it also shows a completely different vin number.
Anyone any idea how I can get round this ie virginate the spare bsi?

Don't know the full answer, but I've read about people replacing the non-volatile memory chip, (EEPROM?).

Wouldn't it be easier to swap the relay in the existing BSI?

(If, like me you doubt your ability to desolder it without PCB damage, consider removing the relay cover, performing some rudimentary surgery on the duff relay so you're left with more or less the pins sticking out of the PCB, then either desolder them one at a time, or solder some wires onto the pins & mount a new relay remotely).

I had a similar experience when replacing my a/c condenser - clutch wouldn't cut in, forced it as you did, but then mine worked without this after the first time.

You might also get this with a faulty pressure switch / sensor, (semi mux cars have a pressostat [switch], later cars have an analogue pressure sensor). Have you monitored the pressure / status via PP2K?

Thanks reply Doggy... Am running out of time as am off on holiday soon but yes the early bsi's had and easily desolderable eeprom but the later one's are almost imposs at least for me.
Relay swap is on the cards when I return if I cannot virginise the second bsi but for the holiday will work something out with some sort of cabin thermostat so that should give me an idea if the pressure relay is hunky-dory which I think it is...
