Electric Window Fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electric Window Fault

Post by jonti007 »

On the drivers side I can get the window down but I hear a click when I want the window up. When I use the switch to bring the window down and stop it half way, I then press the up side up the switch but it carries on down to the bottom, then it only comes up after several attempts on the up side of the switch.
Today I had to drive back from Sainsbubs with window down.
Now is this a switch problem? or is it something around the motor?

I think you need to reset it...somehow. Though I am not sure how this is done. Someone will be along shortly.

Don't know how useful it is though.

(I also just remembered to get cash out for Sunday, but that definitely isn't any use  )

I Have this afternoon looked at the switches and they seem ok no signs of discolouring ie burning, everything seems ok. I tried the window and it went up and down a couple of times then stopped and just clicked. It went up after a while so I have left it up till I can resolve this issue, all the other windows work just fine.

Hi, this has happened to both my 406s, same symptoms, it was the switch both times. See if you can swap it with one that definately works and try the window switch when window is half down.

There's another link in that thread from Jasper5 it's an how to.

I got two switches the one failed just after i bought the car (passenger wouldn't open) then in the summer the drivers one started getting erratic so i swapped it back for the old one with the intension of trying to fix one or both but ain't got around to it yet.

Doubt I'll get the time soon either so would love feedback from the author of this here Fred if he dares to try it.

My passenger side front window has stopped working, like the above posts. It started just working intermitantly,on the drivers side switch and passenger switch, untill it stopped 3/4`s of the way closed. After 5 mins of trying, the window closed, but has not worked since. Will need to find a new switch myself.
