Coolant type?

Post by Blubayou »

Having just changed my cambelt I also drained out my coolant as it's quite old.

Flushing out with water at present.

Am about to fill with standard ethylene glycol 33% mix (as used in my Spitfire).

Is this still the best way or am I just old?

Do I need sevsral flushes to avoid interaction with whatever else was in there before? (OAT stuff?) :?

A good job to be doing at this time of year to get your coolant system protected against the oncoming winter.

im using this http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/prestone-antifreeze

it don't seem bad stuff, as you can add to it with any other colour later on if needed,
a lot cheaper than the oat' stuff too which inormaly use,

Thanks guys, put the Comma G30 stuff in as recommended, £23 for five litres delivered on ebay.

Pity I can't use it in the Spitfire tho, apparently the OAT attacks some alloys, soldered joints etc...

Think it lasts 5 years tho, the traditional ethylene glycol stuff definitly doesnt, some very grubby water drained out of the Spitfire
