My new 406

Post by MacWomble »

After having my old 406 for almost 6 years and 308,000 miles (160,000 of them mine), I've decided to stick with this amazing workhorse.
I bought this 99 plate GLX for less than a grand with service history and old MOT's to verify the 115,000 miles. Cam belt and water pump done at 62k and 97K, excellent condition all round inside and out and most important - arm rests !
Really pleased with it and although I really wanted another 2.1, I'm impressed with the smoothness of the HDI.

Looks very tidy. If it's half as reliable as the last one, you won't go far wrong. 8)
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Lowish mileage too. Cars like that are hard to find - even here in Australia where they are often in excess of 180,000 miles!

Good luck :cheesy:

That do look good, so it had a cambelt and warty pump at 62 and 97K miles? :?

Check that rear lower engine mount before it leads to more headaches.

Thanks all, really happy with it so far.

DDD, I sold the 2.1 to a guy from Birmingham, needed bits for his dads one.

It's been really well looked after by the past owners, and for a 15 year old car it's amazing. With just 115k on the clock I'm hoping for another 100k !

The only thing I can't find out about is the clutch, which I'm sure has not been done yet, I may be swopping out the lower engine mount sometime soon methinks. Gulp!
