MAF Vs MAP Sensor?

Post by gumby6371 »

After changing the MAF on my 2.2 (Planet flagged it as being naffed) it has increased performance, throttle response at lower RPM's and economy which I'm very glad about after shelling out £70 for the bloody thing.
Can someone now educate me as to why I appear to have a MAF and a MAP sensor as according to Google they both essentially to do the same job and which has a greater affect on performance and or economy?

Apologies in advance for what is probably a daft question but I'm a great believer in, 'if you don't ask you'll never know'.

Mass Air Flow - how much wind does it think's reaching the inlet manifold.
Manifold Absolute Pressure - how much boost are you applying to achieve the above air flow.

To my mind the first one's needed to gauge how much fuel to inject, the second to adjust your turbo vanes as necessary to match actual boost with wot your ecu calculates is needed.

Thanks Doggy,

So basically MAF = economy
MAP = power

I had no idea a car could have both. I thought the MAP sensors made the cruddy MAF sensors obsolete.
