Doing It The French Way... ( Sat Nav )

Post by trufflehunt »

You know how with the 406, although it pretends to be a car for British people, soon enough it
reveals its Gallic roots.

I've used loads of sat navs, done a little buying and selling, and eventually concluded that Toms Toms
and Garmins were indeed the best.

However, when I acquired the 406, with it's sat nav, I found that I rather liked the way it went about its business.
Anyway, in my never-ending search for the perfect app, I recently found a Michelin sat nav app. It's on
the Google Play Store and also on the Apple app store.

I initially discounted it because it had a lowish review rating. Curious though, I downloaded it to my Android phone.
And it seems to me that the reason for it 's low rating is because it's too French.

There is no irritating navigation voice to tell you what to do.
There is a screen of constantly updating route information.... speed limit, various alerts including camera warnings,
distance to next turn etc. And when you get near the next turn for you, the screen changes to one that is very similar
to the 406 navigation screen.

And the maps it uses seem to be TomTom.

Thought you might like to check it out too.

My old Tom Tom is rubbish, the other day I used it whilst driving around Knowsley Saffari Park......half way round it said "bear left" and when I looked it was a f*cking Lion.

Yeah it's the Beige Jacket second from the left.....Ta.....Is that the door?

My favourite navigation app for the last year or so has been Navfree. It's based on Navmii, but has ads and uses OpenStreetMap maps instead of professional maps. It has yet to lead me astray, the user interface is sensible and uncluttered and it's only £3 or so to remove the ads. You can buy and download professional maps, but I haven't found that necessary yet.
