Weird, although they wouldn't be able to use someone else's current reg whatever the make of car so it only leaves finding details of scrapped 406's?? but then that's not right to do that either....and why pick one that looks like it reads POO? or were they trying to tell you something about the TV programme

Dare you to put the reg into ASK MID?? :supafrisk:

Just tried the reg on the ECP site and nothing found.

I wonder if they just ask owners permission to use their car in a shot and slap some false plates on? It was only on an ad and you never saw the car actually move.

I suppose we should be flattered because someone thought a 406 looks modern enough to have been new in 2012.

Saw a GPO Commer 15cwt in a tv show once, I think it was some sort of detective drama set in the 50s. It had white on black plates, none of them were that old and that was clearly made after 1981 (it had the plastic grille). Completely ruined the show for me, I was even going to write in and complain but I couldn't find a pen.

I think I remember reading that the DVLA publishes a list to the production companies of numbers that were never issued, then they just randomly pick a number off that list. So some kid in the props department who doesn't have a clue about how the reg numbers work probably just picked a number and made some plates up.

There's a car "agency" for getting your car on the telly isn't there? You register, then if they need a car like yours they ring you up and you get to spend a day hanging 'round the set and a very small amount of money for your trouble. I remember seeing a programme about it, there was a woman who owned Grant Mitchell's Cavalier off of that Eastenders, the problem that occurred to me was that more often or not when that car appeared on screen it was either running to or away from something. "Oi! Be careful with my car, tosser!!!"

I know the Volvo forum has been asked many times to borrow old Volvos for various shoots or music videos; one lad lent the TV people his 850R and they were less-than sympathetic with it so he spat the dummy out (there's a surprise) basically they treated the car like any other prop and it got shunted around all day and no-one gave a sh*t about it or the owner, I don't think you get much money either as most of these are on a tight budget they won't buy cars for one-off's.
