Moved to South Africa and took my 406 with me

It has been a long time since I last posted on here as I have moved from the U.K to South Africa, I took with me my beloved V6 and unfortunately it has caused a few problems, like the abs and engine management light on, it also has the anti pollution fault again!! Not sure where and how to get it fixed?

South Africa? Not sure how common Peugeots are there, or if there are any dealers.

ABS is more than likely going to be the reluctor rings, which are little toothed rings that are bonded to the driveshafts and are integrated into the rear wheel hubs. The ABS sensors pass an infra-red beam across the reluctor rings in such a way that the toothed gear breaks the beam as the wheels are turning - this enables the ABS system to work out which wheels are turning, and how quickly. What tends to happen is that the rings rust and/or crack - teeth break off, or the whole ring loses its bond to the driveshaft/axle, so the ring doesn't spin properly. This makes the ABS system think your wheels are locked up, so the ABS system kicks in unnecessarily. Replacing the front ones means new driveshafts, and replacing the rear ones means new hubs. Not particularly expensive in either case.

The engine management light is a whole different kettle of fish - can be for any number of reasons. I've had antipollution fault for things like faulty fuel injectors, but they can also be caused by failing catalytic converters. I'd definitely recommend borrowing an ODB2 code reader and use it to read the stored fault codes. If you can't borrow one, they can be bought online for as little as £20.

It is actually very funny the amount of things that have gone wrong in the 3 week container journey, central locking, abs, engine management, battery went flat and the idiots at the port parked it at the pick up zone and left it in d with the handbrake down for 2 days. I did also bring my trusty pp2000, though I am not quite sure if that would diagnose the problem very well

Hmm, I'm wonder how many of those faults were caused by the flat battery.

Maybe to avoid the brakes rusting up? Used to have an Ashtray that did this if I left the handbrake on over a weekend.

Should tell you what the fault codes are more accurately than a generic off-the-internet ODB2 reader could. I've not managed to get mine working yet, but I'm told it's the best thing to use to troubleshoot the 406.

Such a funny thing happend, so I have just registered my car here and on the way home I decided to let it loose on the Motorway since the speed limit is 85mph, and all the warning lights suddenly went away? Couldn't believe it. How could this be possible?

Low battery voltage can throw up fault codes?
