Key Fob Issues

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Key Fob Issues

Post by gumby6371 »

Morning all,

I've been having some issues with locking/unlocking with the key fob lately, sometimes it will and sometimes it wont. If I take the fob apart and press the micro switches directly it seems to work fine so I'm guessing the after market fob the previous owner acquired is starting to ware and needs changing. Thats no real issue in itself but strangely enough I can now only start the car if I insert the key button side down, the other way up it won't turn and the steering lock stays on. I find it difficult to believe the transponder is too far away if the key is button side up, can they fail with time?? is it likely the transponder ring has moved??

As I only have 1 key I'm a bit nervy that it will stop working all together and need to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

All suggestions gratefully recieved as always especially the FOC fixes!!

So that's not the transponder then, that immobilises the engine and it just cranks and cranks, if the key itself isn't not turning then they key is damaged/worn (or the lock is but I don't like to think about that)

When you say after-market, what exactly have you got there?

So with the original's guts in it? I think you have two problems there, probably both due to the "after-market" key fob. I'd say get another one but cutting it will be difficult if it's too worn.
