Renault Twingo woes

Post by benczuk »

Does anyone have access to AutoData? If so can you tell me the torque values and procedure for the head bolts on a D7F 726 1.2 petrol engine found in a Renault Twingo mk 1 or Clio Mk 2?

My v old copy of Auto data isn't playing ball and though I have found them on t'internet I would prefer a more reputable source!

TIA

I can find out tomorrow (friday) if you still haven't got it, however, the settings are usually printed on the package the head gasket/gasket kit comes in.

Thanks Jasper, I went with what I had found online in the end after finding the same procedure in numerous places.

Topic change for accuracy.

So head gasket replaced without issue, car fired up first time and has run nicely for just under 200 miles.

Yesterday the wife phones from outside daughters school saying it "sounded funny" (later pinned down to rough / slow idle). Drove up there and car was fine when restarted, drove home without an issue. 3 hours later I used the car for a errand run of a couple of miles. Tick over was a little low when I arrived at my destination and parked up but nothing serious, car drove home again without issue.

This morning the wife goes to take the daughter to school, car starts fine but i get a call when she gets to the end of the road saying it has cut out twice and won't restart.

Car starts and runs smoothly as long as I keep a little throttle fed in. As soon as you take your foot off it stalls. Get it back home, let it get cold (note it had done probably 400 yards) and it starts but tick over is very slow. Exhaust smells of fuel, though this could be choke(?)

Technician (dad) is visiting with his box of tricks (code reader) at the weekend. but anyone have any thoughts on what to try in the meantime? I have checked all connections to the sensors and for vac leaks. none found.

Car has been v reliable to date so a MAF / MAP sensor failure so soon after a gasket replacement seems unlikely in my head... Thoughts?

Cars don't have choke any more :cheesy:

I would go back and check all the connections to the injectors and also if any injector seals are leaking.
Check the coolant sensor connection and if there is dirt around there.
Check the coil pack connections and plug leads.
Check the connection to the crank sensor.
If all else fails go back and check the valve timing.

You've had a lot of things to re-assemble I guess it's a case of checking for leaks and connections. What about the inlet manifold gasket would that affect running if it wasn't seated properly?

Thanks all. To complete the circuit it appears to be the idle control valve in the throttle body sticking, presumably as it now needs to be at different positions given the head isn't leaking any more.

During testing we had it stuck at both low and high idle and both times running an actuator test on it fixed it for a period.

replacement item on order.

You do indeed! Unfortunately I don't have a keyring to give away. Shame as a Peugeot keyring may have improved your ford!
