Door Key and locking system

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Door Key and locking system

Post by cliffk »

Hi Not sure if this is the correct catagory for posting.

Car is a 2003 406 Estate, I recently lost my spare key (basic key no blip buttons) so eventually went to a high street key shop who read my blip key then told me to take the chip and my key to the car and carry out a small proceedure, they then cut my spare key.

I was warned that it may not cancel the alarm and guess what it doesnt, if I lock the car with the blip and use the spare to open the door the alarm sounds.

I have overcome this by opening the car with the blip key and then olny using the spare key to lock unlock and drive the car, I appreciate that the alarm is not activated (I dont think it is) but the vehicle locks and drives so blip key is now the spare.

Does anyone know if this issue can be overcome or am I stuck with no alarm if locking with the spare non blip key.

Have I got this right:
* original key working as normal;
* original spare key (no buttons) lost;
* new key (no buttons) locks, unlocks, starts, but does not unset alarm, and unknown whether it sets alarm.

Gut feeling right now is that the keys need reprogramming to the car using Peugeot Planet and the secret code.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Am I missing the point here..?

Why not use the plip key full time, and the new spare as a spare?

Rwb you are correct, ginger magic yes I can do that but my concern is if I loose the blip key and the car is locked I will be able to open and drive the car but the alarm will be going off as the non blip key doesn't cancel the alarm, at least if I loose the non blip key I won't have that problem.

To be honest I am happy just being able to lock the car the immobiliser will still work and I don't tend to leave stuff in it.

I see.
I think if you double press the plip in quick succession, the alarm is disarmed but the deadlocks activate. Maybe try to unlock with the 'spare' key after a double press and see if the alarm goes off.

Best wait until the morning though, just in case...... :cheesy:
