data protection?

Post by lozz »

Daft question..
But here goes..if you bought a car off a car dealer and they sold ur details
And other info too another company..is this allowed!
They gave me nothing in writing or mentioned nothing about it upon buying the car..
After ' threatening the company they sold/passed on my info too they spilled the beans and told me the dealer has sold the info too them..I've got the conversation recorded.

Thing is what can I do or at least report it too?
What happend to dataprotection..

What pisses me off the most is I paid slightly more than market value for the car and the b@##@rds are trying to squeeze more ££s by selling info..

I'm afraid its common practise now, there are very few people you can trust, its a sign of the times we live in.

My interpretation of what is common practice is...

1. If I'm signing up to some website/internet entity where what they're offering
is 'free', then I assume that one way or another, they make their money eventually enticing
me to pay for some premium version of their service.
Or else, they're selling my details on for use by advertisers. It's a massive industry.

2. If I'd paid for something online, a service or an item, I would not expect my details to be sold on,
unless the website had explictly and clearly visibly said so at the time of purchase.

I run a couple of one-man micro-business websites. It's unthinkable to me that I'd sell on
my customers details.

Firstly, I'd challenge the dealer who sold your information.
Then I'd speak to Citizens Advice.

Thanks all ..I will contact the c.a.b and see what they say.
I tried contacting the dealer by phone also sent them an email..
No reply to both..

The company that contacted me at first claimed to be from the AA.
Car warranty..
When I challenged them they then said there company is called CARPROTECT.
Basically they said 'your warranty as expired..
They knew my cars reg / make
My address..landline and mobile..
There was no warranty on the car when I bought it or nothing in writing or otherwise implied.
I've put the number into Google..and there's been 100s bombarded by the same company..
Of which idont think is a proper company..the woman I spoke to had a husky voice..no telephone skills or manner..
And sounded like someone calling from a small room in a house..

I had over 30 missed calls from these feckers before igave in and answerd ..

I had a firm call the other day to say the guarantee had run out on my Bosch washing machine - it had, about 10 years ago, you would think at least they would have current info.

I don't answer 'International ' calls and often not 'Number with held' calls. If its a genuine caller they will call again. If I do answer number with held and hear office noises or nothing at all for about a few seconds I put the phone down.

I now assume everything is dodgy and loaded in the favour of whoever wants you to sign something.

The campaign for PLAIN ENGLISH seems to have fallen on its arse, a 'tick' is supposed to mean 'yes' in this world but not on some application forms when a tick can mean you DON'T want something :?
