Looking at purchasing a disco what is best series 1 tdi or series 2 td5

Depends what you want to do with it. The Series 1s were a bit more agricultural and would be my choice for an offroader. I'm told that the 200tdi was a more robust engine than the 300tdi. A Series 2 td5 will be more refined and would be my choice for an every-day car, but many (if not all) came without transfer box diff locks, and the electronics on the S2 are more susceptible to water ingress (which are the main reasons why I'd choose a S1 for offroading). I'm also guessing that finding a S1 that hasn't been attacked by the metal worm might be a bit of a challenge these days.

I was also reading a while back they forgot to put any threadlock on the nut holding the sprocket for the oil pump on. Nice
