ecu relay

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

ecu relay

Post by rivers »

hello.. i'm new to the 2002 406 2.2 hdi & need help.
my coupe suddenly and abruptly cut out yesterday and now refuses to start.
it will turn over very readily bur appears to make absolutely no
attempt to fire up.
auto electrician said fuel is being supplied to the injectors but there is no power
supply to the ecu and suspects the ecu/ engine management relay....but where is
it?
it is not inside the same underbonnet box as the ecu i should say....this was where
the electrician expected it to be.

also, i see some posts mention bsi & sh fuse...what are these?

Hi.
If the relay is not next to the ECu it dosent have one..
It will be all combined with ecu.

Find inertia cut off switch on passenger side suspension turret.
And give that a press before going any further.

Apot hole..in the road or slamming the bonnet triggers them.

Your Autosparky as been very vague giving you info..so it seems.
Or doesn't like french cars.

Hi, welcome to the club.

As far as I know, the injectors won't 'fire' if the ECU doesn't see enough fuel pressure or if the cam/crank sensors are in sync - although the pump is supplying the fuel...

There are numerous things it could be, so I would start with the cheapest
Clean the cam sensor and crank sensor.
Check the wiring to the fuel pressure sensor ( its on the back of the fuel pump ) and also the wiring to the fuel rail.

This is most unusual for it to suddenly cut out, I'm thinking electrical fault but I am no mechanic, sorry.

If you add your location to your profile, maybe someone local can help with a diagnostic session - and I would also recommend joining the 406 Coupe club ( www.406coupeclub.org ) for more help with the 2.2Hdi engine.

removed crank position sensor and its damaged & broken off at the tip, exposing
the inner terminals which i assume were once joined.
would this cause a non start anyone...??

Hi.
Yes if its broken..it'd cause a none start.
I'd be looking into why its broken..

Has it had a ' recent clutch fitted.?

Yes, get one from a scrapyard ( they don't normally go wrong ) and fit it, maybe splash out on a new one..

I see you have had plenty of advice on the Coupe forum - they are a good bunch. ( I use both forums too.. 8) )
