I have a 96 406 saloon which is collecting water in the boot. The nearside rear of the mat gets wet in the rain. It's not coming from the boot lid as it's just the mat. After heavy rain it pools in the corner and makes the trim surround it wet. Any idea as to where to look for a leak?

I had the same problem. It turned out that the water was coming in via one of the the tail lights.

That sounds like a plan. I'm abroad at the moment and don't want to start dismantling things so will check it when I get back. Stuffing newspaper under the mat in the meantime!

Just discovered I have water in the front passenger footwell too. This has been a longstanding problem I thought I'd sorted out (thought it was a coolant leak as the coolant needed frequent topping up) but now guessing not!

Hi,
Is the rubber seal that runs along the length of the sill still there & intact,
clumsy feet can dislodge it/damage it this in turn allows road spray to get under the doors & run
down in to the footwells
,another favourite is blocked up sunroof drains (if you have one)

It happens when the car is standing for a while.
Where would I find the sunroof drains?

Any idea how I can remove the trim panels on the A pillars? The original poster says they are on clips but mine seem reluctant to move and I don't want to force them....

Quite simple, just pull some of the rubber seal away from the trim - then pull, start from the top. If you have an executive, be gentle with the sensors at the top.
There are some spring clips in he back of the trim, which locate into square holes in the pillar, these can be a bit stiff.
