Aircon fuse / recirc fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Aircon fuse / recirc fan

Post by scrapheap »

First of all, it's a D8 LX with basic aircon.

The aircon worked ok until recently, when it started intermittently blowing fuse 21.

I've had the problem with the noisy recirc motor, was wondering if this being knackered ( which it is ) could be blowing fuse 21- which is linked because when it blows, the A/C switch doesn't light, and also there is no noise from the recirc flap motor.

Where is this motor, is it likeley to be siezed and causing the fuse to blow, and can I disconnect it - assuming it's behind the glovebox ?

Right then, quick update.

It's not the motor causing the fuse to blow, it's the accelerator pedal ( or use of it ! )

When I start the car up, and let it idle, the aircon will helpfully start without blowing the fuse.

If I put the fan on full, it doesn't quite get there, because...

When I blip the accelerator, the fan goes onto full blast, and the fuse ( 21, 20A ) blows, the aircon goes off, and the fan continues at full pelt.

Think I might have a loose fan belt, explaining a previous post about difficulty starting some mornings. But why does the fuse blow when I blip the accel ?

Maybe a dodgy regulator on your alternator? Use a voltmeter/multimeter and see if the voltage anywhere jumps up when you raise the revs
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
