Electronic oil gauge with no "000000"s, sometimes

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electronic oil gauge with no "000000"s, sometimes

Post by Welly »

Sometimes my oil level gauge on my D9 flashes "min.. ..max" instead of displaying a solid min..ooooooo..max

It seems to do it if you start the car and start moving straight away.

Anyone else have this? The actual oil level is fine and never ever moves.

first time this happened to me i thought i had an oil leak!!

its if you park on an incline or the camber of the road is steep

oil runs away from the sensor

same way the fuel guage misreads if you park on a steep hill

I must admit, the few times it's happened has been on an incline

Do you know how the sensor works? it seems pretty accurate on mine reducing to one less 'o' when the level drops a tad.

its like a variable resistor with float switch, as the oil level goes down the float will sink producing a higher resistance thus alowing less voltage to pass through it and too the gauge
