Floodings of late....

Post by niz406 »

Are any of you in areas that have been affectedby the recent down pours? any damage to your property etc....???

Also where are all the countries that we help when they have national disasters... why are they not here helping us?? All the help we give to these countries in time of need and here we are the worst floods in over 50 years and no one has come to assist our country.

Debate! ! !

Yes it makes you sick doesn't it. We always race over to other countries to help with earthquakes, droughts, bombings etc and when we could do with extra bodies we get the cold shoulder.

I recon we, as a club, should sent Trem1 down there in his 407 8) he should be able to suck up Gallons

Luckily, I'm too high up for floods here. I feel sorry for those affected.

No trouble with floods, I live on a hill (well it is Wales :cheesy: ). And yes it does piss you off

Don't start me on the Local Authorities or UK Government, I could write a book on the amount they've pissed me off lately.

I too am lucky to live in an area that doesn't get affected by floods, but when
i see the pictures on tv i feel real sorry for those people that have. In some cases
its taken some of those people years to build a home and to see it destroyed virtually
over night, i cant even imagine how they must feel.
As for recieving help from other countries i have to admit that pisses me off too, the
amount of aid be it financial or material that has gone out of this country over the years
is staggering, and now the time has come for it to come our way where is it ??. Seems to
me this country is looked upon by others as a soft touch in their times of crisis but they
all turn their backs when its ours. Think its time for the people and government to say
enough is enough you can all f*ck off we are going to look after our own first, but no doubt
you will have the minority of do gooders and politically correct people whinging " you cant do
that what about world opinion and what other countries think about us "who gives a f*ck!!! they
obviously dont think much about us hence the lack of assistance. And if some far away little
backwater country does pass comment, check to see if they have been recieving aid from us
( aid that has more than likely been syphoned off by a corrupt government )and if they have
tell em , right for that derogative comment against this country your aid is going to be cut off
and ploughed into our national health or education service .

Just my 2pennyworth...

I have a friend in Sheffield who lost everything due to her house flooding. Thankfully it was only a rental place, but still... She didn't have contents insurance :(
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Don't most home insurances especially contents have a clause that voids the cover for natural distasters :D

Yeah the "Act of God" clause. I doubt you'd have too much difficulty getting a payout on a flood though

Floods - subject close to my heart.

My job is assessing the risk of flooding and designing mitigation measures. Done some high profile sites and so far the numbers work.

Sometimes it can be very hard convincing a developer that they should not/must not build on part of the plot. Their greed tends to result in the losses we see on the news

As you may all know i work away from home, that being Howarth in West Yorkshire - i have many friends and family that were effected by the floods in both sheffield and Rotherham, the publicity and the hype and the "oh my god what is going to happen" was only half that was given to the gloucestershire, Oxfordshire etc, and the depth of water was a lot higher, has it got something to do with
"anything north of the Watford Gap is considered natural wastage". I THINK SO

My Job involves me working at Innsworth in the heart of Gloucestershire, and yes the complete camp is just about under water - but the nation expects from its boys in uniform - yeah right - how the hell are we supposed to support our country and help the civilian population in a time of crisis when 65% of our troops are deployed looking after other people who dont give two hoots about anybody but themselves.

sorry rant over but really had to get that off my chest - god i feel strongly about the whole Military/deployed/civilian/helping local community thing.

Yep, it sure is a shitter to know that the countries / people you are trying to help.... are the same people / countries that terrorise other nations... and yet will help no one but themselves...

We are the softest country of them all if you ask me... yeah sure we will help you all out and allow you to seek asylum here, but when the sh*t goes bad, we would like your help... is that something you can do for us? Or shall we just bend over now and let you rodger us before hand???

Lets face it, its a subject that politicans wont admit too or discuss because of fear of being called a racist or similar...... I'm not a racist by any means I'm a realist, and I would just like to see what would happen if France, Germany or Spain experienced this type of weather.... that's right the UN would be there to help out ! ! ! !

last friday the drains burst in the workshop, the guttering and part of the roof gave way and we was under about a foot of water within about 30 mins, thankfully this has happend many times before so we were well prepared and only minor damage was done, but i thought we got hit badly but i can safely say we got let off very lightly, even though the workshop stunk of sewage and sh*t
