'Hollow' door noises and squeaky chirp when clutching

'Hollow' door noises and squeaky chirp when clutching

Post by repsho »

The drivers door has been off and resprayed on my car at some point in its life as the door sounds 'hollow' ie. clanging style noise when you close it as if there is no sound deading material inside, window rattles with the bass when down.

Anything I can do to fix this as its pretty annoying.

Also, there's a squeaky chirping style noise coming from the engine when I engage/disengage the clutch (nothing under acceleration, noises disappears) to change gear as well. To top it all off there is a white liquid stain coming from the dash area leaking into the passenger footwell as well.

Any ideas/pointers would be great - Thanks

is it a HDi 110? the clutch problem sounds like a buggerd DMF unfortunatley
as for the window, i have no idea, my drivers window has the same problem, i think its just wear in the window regulator, though ive never botherd to strip the door down to have a look

Yeah, it's a 110 HDI SE. What's a DMF and how much do they cost to replace? The clutch itself is perfect as is the box - The only thing that gets my attention is a really quick chirpy noise that seems to kick in when you release the clutch and lasts about a half a second.

Sounds like it's coming from round here:

As I thought it might have been the fanbelt or similar at first.

DMF is a Dual Mass flywheel, unlike a conventional flywheel it got springs and a large rubber damper inside it that absorbs engine vibration and clutch judder, the squeak is it slipping and then locking, they are quite a common problem unfortunatley, you need to replace the clutch at the same time, so its about 8 hours labour, plus parts, but the best thing to do is to get a solid flywheel conversion kit off ebay, as you will never have to worry about changing it again, its nothing to worry about yet, though bear in mind if you are unlucky then it may explode and if your really unlucky puncture the clutch bell housing, but the later is extremely rare and more associated with the woeful 307, more usually on the 406 you just end up with occasional and unexplainable clutch slip
