My milemuncher is a 2000 T HDi Exec, and although we havent had much of a summer, my lack of being able to use my cc is irritating the hell outta me. Whenever I put climate control on (auto or A/C), the STOP warning light on the dash starts flashing at me, although the air is nice n chilled. If I switch off the cc i.e. put it onto ECO mode, the light stops. Another thing i've noticed is my rad fans arent coming on anymore either, so the car starts to overheat in traffic, but I can bring the temps back down by blasting the interior fans at 30C (and getting a bit of a sweat on! ).
Does this sound like a BSI problem? Think I'm gonna attempt the BSI reset procedure and see if that helps. Or could it be just a thermostat sensor issue?
First thing i would do is check the relays in the fan shroud. If they go the fans may not turn on for the AC or engine. Have a search round the forums, quite a few people have had problems when the relays have failed.
I would expect the STOP light is caused by the fans not working. (turning AC on will turn on one of the fans, so it its not working that would explain the STOP light.)
Changing the BSI would be one of the last things i looked at doing, need to rule out all the other possiblities first.
After working out how to pop the clips off the grill (only 2 mins I swear), I tried to move the fans, one moved fine, the other was stuck. Gave it a good tug, and nearly blinded myself with a little pea sized piece of gravel shot out and hit me in the cheek, hehe. Anyway, job done, nice 14C auto climate control once again.
