Parping wastegate solenoid??

Post by CricketyJimin »

Hello all,

My recently acquired HDi 110 (2003) makes an odd noise when stopped which might be best described as a parping which comes from the wastegate solenoid valve when the engine is switched off, lasting a minute or two. I can also hear it at low speeds/revs particularly on the over-run. It seems to drive ok though.

I assume the noise is vacuum bleeding off through the solenoid - it stops if any of the pipes to the wastegate or EGR solenoids are removed so there is lots of vacuum there.

I have tried changing the wastegate solenoid for a new one but it still does the same. Has anyone out there with more experience with these systems heard of this before? It's not really a problem at the moment but the noise is just irritating!!

Nothing unusual I think, but I'll check this evening. Pumping the brakes after turning it off also stops the noise since this uses the vacuum up.
