hi i have a 406 hdi 90 and it has gone in to safe mode all the time now i have had the ecu read and clened but the only code that came back was (po 230 fuel pump primary circuit)
does anty one no wot this means about a month ago i changed the high presure pump about 2 weeks ago and it ran fine now it started this when it is ticking over it also cuts out with out any warning and if you take you foot off when driving it it cuts out as well then you have to take the keys out and put back in prime the pump in the tank and it will start as normal

406 hdi fault code help

I would say it the low pressure pump (or wiring in the tank). (not 100% the 90 has one thou, some people in the past have said they don't)
There very common failure on HDi's any signal if its on its way your best replacing it as it can take out your high pressure pump (it also about the cheapest part of the system). I' probably give it a new fuel filter and housing too.
IF I suspected any problems with my high pressure pump the first thing i would do is change the low pressure pump and probably fuel filter/housing.

right p0230 is fuel pump primary circuit failure, i would check for feed to the in-tank pump, if that is ok, then it could be an intermittent wiring fault, its unlikely to be an intank pump as they usually just fail completley

hi have put a live to the pump and it still does it when the engine cuts the pump power cuts as well but when you take the key out and put back in it will start as normal might run 4 about a min or cut out within 20sec i drove 300 miles on monday and it never missed a beet then went out to it monday night and it cut out once but started again drove 150 miles on tuseday and was fine but yesterday did it once after 40miles then got worse and after cutting out 10/15 times went in to safe mode and will not rev above 3000rpm and now just cuts out after 30seconds of running it is stange

The ECU itself never goes wrong. Moreover it is the wiring that is at fault.
The ECU connector pins have been known to corrode and throw a wobbly also check the loom where you can for signs of obvious chafing or abrasion.
In tank pump? could be worth changing but it won't explain the power failure to the pump and like James said these pumps just seem to go quickly and you get a non-starter.
I think it will be the wiring at the ECU end but it won't be all that easy to find.
Good luck!
