New member here. Had my 406 for a few years now mainly trouble free, just doing some maintenance work now and it's great to find a forum like this with so much info
Thanks guys, carp fishing? sure am. havn't been much this year but still managed to bag two 40 pounders in one trip..................... all right it was in France so suppose it makes it easier, but it was FREEZING when I went
So what's the best then D8 or D9? I had mine about 2.5 years and done 105k now. Had it serviced as per the schedule inc cam belt, and the only problems it's really had was a ps high pressure hose leak, indicator stalk replacement due to the indicator coming on when it felt like it, and the odd Anti pollution alarm so say caused by a random miss fire, the guy at the garage reset it and been fine since, oh and a few sets of front pads and discs, don't seem to last to long.
Now it's rolled over the 100k im gonna do as much maintenance as I can myself, all the easy jobs like the rear brakes lol. Just been reading a thread about changing the Aux belt, thats a job for the weekend and another excuse to start throwing my tools around heheh
Talk about fanning the flames... TBH the D9 would probably be the best car if it weren't ravaged by electronic problems. The D8s had simple wiring. The switches actually work the relays which work the things. The D9 switches on the other hand send a coded digital signal to the BSI which does something or other which eventually leads to relays being powered, which does actually lead to a much nicer design but it's let down by reliability problems. It's the same story under the bonnet too.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
