hi all

Post by raw »

hi all new here just registered brilliant website.
i recently bought my first peugeot a 406 1.9td an L model so bog standard it's done 115k it has full peugeot service history cambelt was done about a year ago i have no idea the time frame it should be changed.
there is one or two problems with it firstly the sunroof doesn't work checked fuses all ok.
second if i try to lock the car with remote key (1 button key) the doors lock then unlock straight away it's quite annoying it will lock if i use the key in the door.
fuel gauge has a mind of it's own.
is there anything else i should keep my eye on or change regulary as i do a lot of motorway travelling.
any input or advice would be welcome

thankyou all rick :D

Welcome in fella :cheesy:

The locking/unlocking thing has been on here before, if no one answers it in this post then create a new one (or try a search).

The cambelt intervals are pretty generous at 96000 miles/6 years so you should be fine. One thing worth keeping an eye on is the auxillary belt and tensioners as these can wear and create noise and ultimately the belt can snap with can cause more problems itself, don't panic just check for noises here and the condition of the belt.

Water pumps can leak and are cheap, however they really need doing with the cambelt so you may have missed this oportunity. Don't worry though as your mileage is quite low for now.

Radiators can corrode at the bottom, if your coolant looks brown then consider flushing, new thermostat, new coolant this will help a lot.

The electric? sunroof allways failed on the 405's so I would think the motor has crapped out :( They dropped the sunroof eventually and not many of us have one.

Change the oil + filter every 5 to 6K miles, air filter every 10K, pop in some Forte' fuel conditioner every now and then and you will have a great motor!

My D9's a 1998 with 219,000+km and the sunroof still works fine (touches large piece of timber). There's always the possibility that it's jammed. If you take the cover off there's a manual bit that takes an allen key, you could try and see if it moves. Of course, you might want to wait 'til summer, in case you can't get the damned thing shut again...

Ah, that old chestnut :cheesy: Try thisthread for starters. As for the clocks, I'm not really sure but no doubt it's been done...

I'm sure the rev counter will just work when you swap the binnacle, I read a forum thread ages ago where someone was upgrading their L to a GLX. I did an LX to GLX on my last 406.
