mass air flow meter
Hi boys,
I think the mass air flow meter has gone on my 406 hdi 90.
Checking out for parts and wondering if there's much difference between 206, 306 and 406 hdi parts?
I have a siemens one with all sorts of letters and numbers on it......do these numbers have to match exactly for a replacement part?
Thanks guys

9 times out of 10 it will have to be part matched with the old numbers.

What makes you think the MAF is faulty? it's very rare for these to play up on HDi's and I think on the 90BHP HDi the MAF is only there to check that the EGR system is working (or something like that).

Re: mass air flow meter
your spot on there welly, air flow meter is just to check EGR function, more often than not, AFM is misdiagnosed when the fault is a wiring break

Thanks for the replies folks.
Purchased a second hand MAF from a 51 plate 110 hdi.
Replaced todayand it has cured my once extremely slow 406,runslike a dream now.
Also managed to get my 18" alloys on today too so well chuffed with the wagon at the moment! Will take some pictures andput them on for all to see asap.
Thanks again.

Re: mass air flow meter
my HDI 90 has just returned only 40mpg on a long relaxed Cornwall journey, and I'm wondering whether the MAF is overfuelling like they do frequently on the Rover 75 diesel. Its running fine, strongly, just low mpg. Any other thoughts? And where is it located on the HDI... so I can unplug and do a comparative test.
Is the EGR cleanable on a HDi, or is there a crankcase ventilation filter of any description anywhere that I can do likewise..?
thanks

Re: mass air flow meter
Strangely we never speak of MAF's on here so it never seems something to look into.
My car's a bit flat at low revs (like turbo lag) but then suddenly flies. Maybe a new Air Flow Meter would improve throttle response on all our HDi's?
I do know that VAG cars get through MAF's like there's no tomorrow
(bitten bum taken)

Re: mass air flow meter
A typical vag prob never heard of a pug suffering it. The way to cure it is change the air filter more frequent that is what i have been told. May consider changing mine with 148k on the clock
it could be worn i guess how much are they from the steeler?

Re: mass air flow meter
Hi welly long time. Hows things? I know its been a while since i have been on the forum. Due to ill health i have not been upto alot including driving my pug its been gathering dust
But i am on the mend now so you will see me on here like before from now on. The car is excellent but have a few probs filler cap which i will be investing in the clothes peg
also temperature sensor which decides to work when it feels like it. As for the clutch and chip still very very pleased
You would have to drive mine to appreciate how much quicker and smoother it is also i mentioned previous i added a rear spoiler which is identical to the bmw one lip spoiler type. Handles alot better as we have simular back grounds coming from hot hatches etc.. The feedback when cornering is amazing you know exactly what the rear wheels are doing 100%. Will post some pics once i have time to show it off all colour coded now and chrome inserts to front grille regards rappy
