a possible newbie
hiya guys n gals i could be the owner of a 406 very soon, every car ive had ive always joined a club on the site and found them to be helpful, ive had a look round this site and this is no different but with the added bonus of being fun too, so anyway about the car........
ive been offered a 99 (T reg) 406 estate HDi model, i havent seen it yet but this is what ive been told about it, apparently is top of the range model but im holding my breath about that bit, 80 odd k miles blue (the actual colour begins with a p but cant remember what it is) was told its in immaculate condition (its coming from a reliable source) its been offered to me for £1200 gonna try for £1000, is that a good price?? as i havent seen it yet would there be anyway of knowing whether its the D8 or D9 model just by what ive said about the car? oh and the most important question is there anything i should be looking out for?
i usually change my cars after a few months but im gonna hang on to this one if its as good as the guy says it is (got me a little business idea and this car is ideal for it), my current car is up for sale ill post that in the for sale section
anyway hope everyone goes easy on me when i ask stupid questions lol
take care everyone

Welcome on in!
It would be a D9 being an HDi engine, sounds like a very good price to me!
Has it got FSH, cambelt been changed yet & bottom pulley? Expensive job if not, the other chaps here will chime in with words of wisdom

Good man! it's nice when people notice this. I allways say we have so few problems with our cars so we have more time for a laugh!KickinChicken wrote:this site and this is no different but with the added bonus of being fun too
The good thing about 406's is that (on the whole) they may niggle you from time to time but they won't crap out on you and you will allways get where your going.
£1200.00 is spot on I reckon. Shame really, they should cost more.
Welly.

If that is true i.e. an exec then it seems like a vey cheap saloon. & if it's an estate I'll have it if you don't wany it.apparently is top of the range model

thanks everyone, the should actually cost more but its off a guys nephew at work and this guy gets good deals, he can get his hands on any car at all (all legitamatly i might add lol)hes got alot of contacts in the car trade, he just sold his uncle (the guy i work) a 2005 mondeo ghia x tdci 2005 with 14k on the clock for £7200 which i think is stupidly cheap,
really got my heart set on the 406 now been hearing and reading loads of good things about them, the maddest thing is i used to say i would never go french but after doing some research the 406 is really underestimated
roll on monday when i get to see the car woohoooooo

Don't remember a blue begining with P on the 406 ....
It's probably Samarkand Blue metallic (like mine
) or China Blue pearlescent (very deep colour). There was a very nice mid metallic blue called Monaco but that didn't come in 'till late so it wouldn't be on a '99 model.

Re: a possible newbie
Get the VIN number from the plate under the bonnet by the offside headlamp, and put it into http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com then go to 'characteristics' and you'll see everything you need to know about that particular car
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: a possible newbie
or you can open the bonnet and see if it has a intercooler. (look for the holes on the top right of the engine heading to the right of the rad.)
if it is an exec it will be the 110, they never did the exec with the 90 bhp

If someone's posted in the meantime it shows me the new post as well as my post which it gives me the option of editing. Which I normally can't be bothered to
