sounds like a break in the wiring harness or the BSi is pooped

Most modern alternators are 'intelligent' and only charge when they 'need' to so this could explain it?

if you have had this problem since changing the altenator i would
get it replaced under the warranty as it sounds like it could be faulty,
or did you have this problem before and thats why you fitted a new
altenator ??

It may be worth changing the auxilliary belt as a matter of course just in case it's slipping :?
