Notice the suspiciously low n/s front?

That'll be a snapped road spring then the broken bit lodged itself on the inside tyre wall and make a nice job of scuffing the rubber so hot it went sticky and bits of rubber went everywhere. Fortunately I wasn't going at any real speed at the time but I had to carry on a few hundred metres to pull up somewhere safe.

That's two snapped springs now (the rear o/s snapped when I bought it but no real drama).

AA man said "we see loads of these - it's all the speed humps"

At least you had AA cover, should be a fairly quick fix. You having both front springs changed?

Well, actually my man said no - just change the one spring. I dunno, I suppose you should change both but if there's nothing wrong with the other then why bother? - he's going to have a look at the other one anyway and let me know.

It broke off right at the bottom were it goes rusty - I saw it had left a short bit from the end of the spring still stuck in the cup bit.

I think I will feel nervous if I don't change the other one the mechanic said he'd just changed one on a Laguna which snapped at 100MPH, shreaded the tyre and sent the guy off the road

Last thing you want welly glad to hear you ok and weren't going too
fast when it happened. Can understand comment about speed bumps
there's a lot where i live and i go all round the sticks to avoid them

That truly sucks. I'm hope its a quick and cheap job to get her back on the road.

Perhaps time to think about a 2002/2003 vintage 406?

You should have a go at changing them yourself, it's not as horrendous as you may think! Save yourself quite a few pennies too!

It was allright in a way - I knew exactly what had happened, I pulled off the country lane into an entrance to a field, called the AA, left the engine running, heated seat on, warm cabin, reclined the seat right back and listened to Terry Wogan for an hour instead of going to work (broke down at 07:30).

It sounds terrible doesn't it? "suspension collapsed" - I've allready had someone saying "will you scrap it now?" in actual fact it's not that bad a problem (although I certainly wouldn't want a high-speeder).

I can't really afford it TBH but I don't have the kit to do it (or the knowledge) so in the garage it goes! they charge £30.00/hr plus the new spring(s) so I dunno how much really? I trust them and know them well so they they won't rob me

Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.
Where abouts do you live? If you're in my neck of the woods I'll do the job for a few beers (to be supped on afterwards! )

sorry to hear of your woes welton
but as problems go this one shouldnt be too expensive

it really isnt hard to change a spring as long as you get/trust your spring compressors,if you aint happy with how there sat take them off and try again otherwise like you said you will get a spring/compresor bit in your mush

If it was me i would change both, its like with tyres i always buy two when i only need one.
