My car .. for sale :(

Post by Captain Jack »

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the planned departure of my car. Here it is.

I have now bought a 54 plate Honda Accord Exec with a 2.2 CDTi engine, which, quite frankly, is amazing. I've driven a more powerful 155bhp diesel Mondeo and it doesn't even begin to compare to the Honda. No doubt I'll still visit here as I can't miss Welly boot's and earwig's posts

If you wish to see the car - and I expect every bidder to do so, because I certainly wouldn't buy a car without seeing it -
Luckily for you, not everyone shares your views. Unluckily for you, it makes you sound right arrogant and I wouldn't put a bid on something with that in the description. I've bought 3 cars off ebay and sold one - all without seeing them in advance. As long as there's high res pictures, a good description and critically an engine bay shot, the risk involved isn't worth spending time and ££££ travelling half way over the country just to test drive a car, especially if you have to do it by public transport and can't take a day off work

The consumer protection act protects buyers from being sold lemons (although retrospectively invoking it would be painful), and contract law says you pretty much can walk away from an auction you win if you see it and it's not as described, a deathtrap, etc. As a buyer, you just pay in cash once you're happy with the car and never ever pay a "deposit" unless it's going to be a few days before you can collect+pay

OK, fair enough. I have never sold a car before, so I really wouldn't know how it all works :( I've edited the description as per your comments. No engine bay pictures but I'll put one up tomorrow when it's light again :D

More comments are, of course, welcome :)

I repaired it myself yesterday :) But I just took the broken stalk apart and saw what you meant by the plastic notch wearing away. So I took apart the working one and simply replaced the housing :)

I really have no idea what it's worth. The dealer offered me 700 quid for a trade in, but similar ones have been sold on fleaBay for £1000 or more. Autotrader seems to have a couple under £800 but there are a few for well over £1000... So I don't really wanna let it go for less that £800 :?

Nice new wheel Alex. I part ex'd my 1998 R plate 2.1GLX with 172k on the clock, but immaculate condition for £700 2 years ago. But yours has got the leather which should add a premium.

Shame you see your not a 406 owner any more, but stick around. I'm not 100% yet, but I'm thinking of getting shot of mine maybe in the next year. I'm only thinking of it at this stage though.

I really did think about keeping it as it has been such a good car (and still is). But I can't justify the cost of insuring+taxing a car that would only be there for occasional use. Plus the usual servicing... and I have nowhere to keep it.

I'd rather have someone I know buy it so I know it's still alive and well

I think I spent about 10 quid on each getting them out of the arcade machines, so that'll be 50 quid for both (sentimental value and all that  )

Actually I had a suspicious dude asking me a question on fleaBay....

"hi,i am very much intrested in the car you have for sale as mine was stolen and burnt out,the only trouble is i am in the ukraine at this time untill the 9th of june,i would arange for someone to pay and pick up thr car for me, if i am the winning bidder,i am a genuine person, not a bull shitter, could you please e mail me at,[email protected] as i can not conect to aol here in the ukraine many thanks,JOHN"

Looks suspicious and he has no feedback, even though he's been with eBay since 2006.... :frown:
