Windows not doing so good :(

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Windows not doing so good :(

Post by Zippokovich »

My back electric windows are not working to well, example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMI4R_W_Unw

I think the problem is that the back windows have never been used as the car was a company car used to commute by on guy and no passengers. Thus i thought that using them a bit would loosen them off and they could only get better, but the more i have used them the worse they have gotten.

I've tried putting some petroleum jelly on the sides, just to lubricate the windows them selfs, which helped a bit but not enough.

The only thing i can think to do is strip the door panels off and lubricate the motors themselves, but i don't know how to do that ether.

Anyone had this prob or know how to fix it?

Take the door card off and give the metal guides the window slides along a good squirt of grease. Silicon grease would be best.

Will do, but are the motors likely to be sticking a bit too? and are they fairly easy to access with the door panel off.

They sound fine to me. Probably just struggling under the strain of pushing and pulling the windows on dry tracks.
Its a little fiddly but you can get to them and remove the motors fairly easily.

Sure thing, i'll just lube up the tracks and see how they go. Only remove the motors of that doesn't work.

Will petroleum jelly work much the same as the silicon stuff?

I'm not sure. Your basicaly looking for a lub that will stick, and not just run off over the course of a week or so.
From the factory, most cars have this white grease compound on moving parts, seems to hang around a good deal.

my back windows are the same, and to a lesser extent the passenger window. mine are never used either. Ive found working them up and down for a bit seems to loosen them. Ive not yet bothered to take the door cards off as there rarely used..im sure ill get round to it evenually
