A question of taste...

Post by swiss »

Evenin' pugfans. So here's the thing. I have a metallic dark green 1.9TDi, and I'm wondering what colour to do the interior lighting, namely the dash and the courtesy lights. I was thinking green but SWMBO suggested this might be a bit "samey-samey". I think I agree but I'm not sure. I think blue would be a bit clashy. Which brings me back to white, which of course it is already.

I do think green might be cool, though. Has anyone tried this with a green 406 and been taken back in disgust at the result?

Could you not stick some transparent green film over the courtesy light and see how you feel about it (no, I don't know where you could get some, maybe from a box of Quality Street :? )

I don't know if they are still available, but a couple of years ago you used to be able to get kits of small coloured rubber condoms specifically designed to go onto small bulbs. They came in a small bubble pack of about 6 condoms, one colour in a pack. Red, green and blue were the usual colours. The packs cost a couple of pounds and they were on the racks of larger petrol stations, among all the other accessories these places sell. If you can find a pack, you could try these,to get a good strong colour change.

Quality Street coloured film is VERY fiddly to fit. You have to make sure it doesn't touch the bulb, because it'll melt and make a real mess

You could put different coloured lights in there, but you'd still have them shining through the red/orange front

The exception is (at least for the speedo and rev counter) the needles, which are illuminated white, although red/orange does leak into them a bit

Indeed, a friend with a Rover found the same orange tint on her dash. She put blue bulbs in only to find her dash simply got darker...

I'm wondering if I can maybe scrape the orange off...
