406 + LPG = No Congestion Charge???

Does anyone know if a 406 correctly converted to LPG by an "approved fitter" is Congestion-Charge exempt?

We spend £1200 a year on C charge and although the HDi is fantastically economic to run, and I love the power, my colleague with a LPG powered Smart car pays no Congestion charge. So, I'm thinking about getting either a pre-converted LPG 406 or buying a petrol D9 and getting it done.

Now I'm researching it though it looks typically bureaucratic to register for an "alternative fuels" C charge exemption and they seem to have a list of approved cars, which does not include Pug 406 but does include Citroen C4 and Xantia which I am sure have the same motors. So I thought, cut the crap, has anyone got an LPG 406 which is successfully registered with TFL to be C charge exempt?

Any info from someone who has done it would be appreciated. I'll probably contact a registered LPG fitter anyway to get their opinion.

Yep... but sadly it won't happen it appears.

Have now confirmed that only cars listed on the "Powershift Register" are approved. Even these have to be the exact model and converted by the listed authorised converter to meet the standard which seems awfully like a monopoly to me.

The closest you get is a Citroen C4 1.6 or a Xantia 16v "Dual fuel" which does at least suggest the engine family is suitable emissions wise, but there are no 406 or 407 listed at all.

The whole thing is silly anyway, as these cars are not necessarily any cleaner than a modern diesel, especially if for any reason they are not using the LPG.
