Trouble down below...

Post by Doggy »

Stopped at traffic lights, nearing the end of my 30-mile daily commute when....
 BANG  WTF :?:
Very loud noise - half way between a boom & a twang.
Handbrake cable snapped? No - wasn't on and works OK
Been tail ended? No - no-one behind me :?:
FAP system halfway through a regen :?: - not had it long, no idea if this is possible :?:
Noise seemed to come from under / behind my seat, (flatulence also eliminated b4 u ask).
Car was already stopped when it happened.
Wasn't listening to Wogan, (though I admit I had been 5 minutes earlier).
Any ideas :?:

Experienced something vaguelly similar with HDi 90 cistern when re-starting hot - 1st time I let go of key just before engine fired, got a smaller bang when she fired up 2nd time :!: Only happened once in 100,000 miles.

The radio!

Common fault on the exec's for the radio to bang/pop. many theories (bad connections, faulty head units etc) why but no real fix.

have a search round here should dig up lots of stuff.

I thought radio but he said "boom & twang" not "pop and bang"

Jesus, just how many noises do you have to describe as a 406 driver

The stereo "bang" will scare the life out of you.

If the car didn't shake/move I'll go with the stereo
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I think the radio starts as loud bang, then worsen to a bang and pop noise. First time it happened to me, thought some one had shoot a gun or the screen had shattered (Obviously hadn't).

Thanks guys
Thinking about it you could well be right, assuming most of the noise came from the door speakers. Kinda felt it as much as heard it, seemed to come from below & maybe behind me a bit. As I'm a lot nearer to the windsceen than most of you it's kinda logical.

I feel much better now :)

No, really - I always twitch a bit...
