front and rear shocks

Post by richteex »

Hello All. My 406 hdi is feeling a tad hard on the bumps..... even feeling the motorway ones and though maybe it was time to change the shocks. Any ideas on how much i should expect to pay to get them done? Cheers

The shocks cost about £35 each, probably 30 mins labour to change each rear (straight forward DIY job really, I managed mine), and 45 to 60 mins for each front (coil overs so need spring compressors).

So probably round the 250 mark. Would expect knackered shocks to give a soft not hard ride thou...

Yup. shocks get softer when they are nackered. Id expect they travel more, so this is possibly why they feel 'harder' as they wont absorb the shocks as much and cause the car to bounce/wobble?

Are the shocks on the 406 inserts?
On the saxo the front are inserts and the rears are not.
On the wifes old rover the whole strut had to be replaced.
