Owned: Renault Laguna Mk.1
Driven: 2001 Pug 206 (shoes too big for the pedals so it was hard to hit the brake without getting the accelerator as well  )

Actually a 2003 Astravan was an unpleasant experience too, as the seat managed to give me excruciating backache after 10 minutes into a drive from Surrey to Stoke
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

a) It'd be easy to stuff in one of the ancient rust buckets I've owned here but I don't think that would be fair, so I think I'll go for my biggest disappointment:
Image
Ground clearance - excellent.
Off-road ability - mediocre. Abysmal in shallow snow.
Suspension - incredibly hard.
Handling - frighteningly vague, dangerous at anything over 50mph.
Fit & finish - cheap & nasty.
Load capacity - excellent, so long as it's less than 1.5 meters long.
Comfort - all that of a Transit van, and less.
0-60 - eventually. And it only did 25mpg.
Handbrake - fantastic...

b) No contest, one of these:

It was craptastic!

No but I can imagine. Did they ever make a convertable? (Hmm... Image) Mate of mine inherited it from his granddad, we took it up High Beech once (nice twisty forest roads), I've no idea how we didn't roll it.

a) Citeon AX 1.0, own for about 3 week and actaully made a profit on it!

b) Chevy Aveo

http://www.chevrolet.com/aveo/

Rental car in USA, 1.6 auto, brand new car. Had it for a week, spend most of it dancing round the red line as it was only way to get it to go anywhere. Everything about it was bad bad bad, as for the handling .....

Also had a chevy malibu, not a lot better car but was v6 which made it lot better

I'm struggling with this. I haven't had that many cars, and none of them were truely horrific.

a) I'm gonna have to go with the 1986 Diesel Fiesta simply because it used to give me a headache around town. Other than that it was pretty good, cruised at 80 quietly and smoothly, 50odd mpg up towards 70 if you were really careful. Shyte brakes though.
b) Oooh I've driven some dogs! A 950 Fiesta that was so unstable it changed lanes on it's own. A 1300cc Mk1 Capri (couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!). A variety of very very bad vans..... and the prize goes to.....My mate's dad's Marina.

this is not the actual car, but it's about the same age, model and colour

V reg Nissan Micra!!

Holy hell.. that was like sitting on a motorised bar stool. Go round a corner with the slightest of speed and you're arse slipped off the seat. No support, what-so-ever

EDIT: I think I should add, this was a courtesy Car while mine was in the shop at the time

I had a Micra as a loaner while the stupid truck was in for a clutch, it was brand new (2 years ago). My back started hurting after about 10 minutes, my mate who was with me seemed to fare better, his took 20...

I had a few Marinas but I didn't include any here, you can't expect much from a car that's basically a Morris Minor with a body designed over drinks one evening.

Remember in the 80's you'd be travelling along the motorway and your senses would be alerted to the sweet smell of combusted engine oil? .....sure enough further down the road would be a Marina with blue smoke swirling reliably from the pea-shooter :) My dad had a K-reg 1.3 marina and the noise on the motorway was

It wasn't that rusty, but mechanically it really made up for it. Had a mysterious misfire that cleared if you turned it off for about 30 sec. The speedo/mileometer was electronic & didn't register with ignition off - recorder 11 miles on my 30-mile commute once. Investigated one day when it was misbehaving - exhaust manifold glowing red, (well the colder bits were red). Window regulator stripped - tried to get replacement at scrappy - 1st car had window held up by 2 clothes pegs, 2nd: 2 pencils etc. etc. But it had its good point - traction :!:
Got in one snowy morning, (dusted snow off seat, adjusted patent masking tape wind deflector system), watched neighbour fail to get up hill in ex-army landrover. Stra(n)da drove straight up hill  Warmed up quick too....
Hated it with a passion.
