My brother is considering turning over a new leaf, mending his ways & swapping his 306TD estate for a 406 estate. He fancies a 2.1, ('HDi's are nothing but trouble'). AFAIK 2.1s only came with Lucas injecion pumps, but can anyone confirm or deny this?
(ServiceSucks seems to confirm it).
He won't have anything with a Lucas pump, cos:
A). Wants to use veg oil
B). He's convinced the Lucas pump is why he keeps getting towed home by them unreliable HDi's
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
I have been led to beleave all 406 2.1's have the Lucas EPIC pump wich will not cope with veg (that's why I'll be running mine on BIODIESEL) but the 605 & citron XM 2.1's are fitted with a Bosch pump wich will be fine with veg, so if he can find a 605 or XM pump with injectors and injector pipes and swaps them over he should be fine.
Ask on www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk for a definertive anser about the swap.

Thanks for the info guys - I've checked the links suggested etc. & others - all confirm Lucas pump / don't use WVO.
Following beer-fuelled strategy session, he's now thinking 1.9TD with mild tuning. I've heard it's relatively easy to get these up to about 110/115 bhp by fuel pump adjustments, injection timing & mods to turbo/wastegate plumbing. Anyone got any experience of this?

I've done it on my 405 1.9 TD (Lucas pump) and had good results.
Do a Google for "John's 306" he has a diesel tuning gide on there.
I found adjusting the turbo waste gate was a PITA so fitted an adjustable boost controler (from ebay less than £20) and this was easier as you can adjust it in minits whithout fishing around under the car.

Thanks for the info, Mark - I've looked into it & a few other places - seems there's a wealth of 306 tuning info, but few references to 406's. Still it's a good start, now I know what to look out for.
