WD40 straw went for a stroll

Post by swiss »

Hey geezers and geezerettes.

My clutch pedal has developed a creak- sounds curiously like a frog, in fact - and I want to WD40 the sucka.

But recently, tragedy struck - my red straw went missing! It seems to have fallen off while I was oiling the boot lock and then made a run for it. The wee red bugger was nowhere to be seen.

So, keepers of knowledge and menders of dodgy French motors, is there anywhere that'll sell me just a straw? Or do I have to buy a new can to get one?

I'd say nick one from a can in Halfords but I see the straw is now a built-in job. I loose them too... :cheesy:

Use the insert for a biro, just squirt out the ink, or poke something in to take out the ink.

Good suggestions, both the pinching and the bodging (I'm always up for a good bodge). What do you guys mean, built in? Mine was taped to the can, same way it's always bin...

They're buggers for sure and seem to 'ping' off in any direction.

I remember asking Mrs Welly if she'd seen my little red straw once and she said she though it away thining it was one of the kids drinks carton straws on the floor

These days I'm a lucky man and am the proud owner of not one, but two straws 8)

What are you going to spray? Don't spray inside the master clutch cylinder as WD40 will just dry it out and the creak will come back. Use some Molykote O-ring grease for that.

It may be good for cleaning and un-sticking corroded things, but WD40 is a terrible lubricant. Use grease.

It's not meant as a lubricant, although it's good for spraying on stuff if you need to know they need lubricating, then you lubricate it properly

Well, I was thinking of spraying the hinge and pin, or whatever it is, on the pedal inside the cabin, under the column. I read a thread here whereby a chap sprayed his and the creak went away.

It might be something else entirely, of course, cable needing changing or some other mystical rite. But, well, try the easy things first :)

...for 30 seconds

Seriously mate, get yourself a tube of grease. It's not expensive and it won't make a mess of your master cylinder

Hmm, well buying grease is certainly on my list of things to do, somewhere under 'get money to buy grease with' :p

Right, come pay day I'll head down the grease shop. Recommended brands/grades for general use?
