Hello out there ,
WOW what a car , I have just got hold of my latest purchase and yes it's the 406 saloon but its also
the 3.0 litre executive and boy oh boy I like it. The quality is evident where ever you look , interior,
sound system, performance, body. It's a d8 model 96 on a p with only 1 owner and has only done 63,000.
I was wondering if any of you people out there can advise me on the engine as the haynes manuals do not
seem to include this and wanting to keep this car in top condition I would like to do what i can rather than put it in the hands of ......well garages these days ........you never know what they do to your car and charge an arm and a leg for it.
Well thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for any help you can give.

Unfortunately for you, I think I'm the only one round here with experience of the engine, and at the moment I hate mine with a passion (I replaced a perfectly good saloon for a lemon of a coupe
)
What do you need to know about it?
Things to watch out for with the ES9J4 (your engine) are :
Lumpy idle caused by muck-filled idle air control valve
Missing on one cylinder due to oil in the spark plug wells
Vibrations caused by worn top engine mount
That's about it really from what I've gathered. I've also got a problem with power delivery on mine, but that could be a million and one things I've not checked yet

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
