V6 Executive 1996 D8

Post by Barn »

Hi all does anyone know where I can obtain some kind of service manual / info / repair guide on the V6
engine as I want to keep it running sweet , should I fit a performance induction kit on it i.e KN, Pipercross, green etc. What oil would you recommend , after going to halfords its all fully synthetic 0w30, 0w40 or 5w40 at around £35 for 5 litre. With regard to the engine where is the oil filter located as not having a pit anymore to gain access its a tad hard to find.

I have had my 406 V6 executive for 2 months now and am loving the car. I would be really intresested if someone could help with the issue above as I have looked everywhere for a manual for repairs as the haynes one I first brought does not cover my model :(

Any advise or links would really help :D

Re. Haynes manuals - Haynes do not publish a service manual for the 406 Coupe, 2 litre turbo, or V6-engined version. I am not sure where you could get such a book - maybe one of our resident V6 owners know of a book by another publisher?

Re. performance air filters - the consensus here is that they can be detrimental to the health of your car, while offering very little performance increases (if any). Best to avoid them on the 406. I asked the question too, as I've only got a 1.8 model.

Re. oil - this is something I have no idea about at all. Can another V6-er recommend oil types? Also, here's my little hijack for this thread :cheesy: - what oil type (brand, synthetic/part-synthetic/natural, rating (etc)) would be best for my 1.8i petrol D9?
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.

think it was castrol edge i put into my last one... 2 months you say? you didn't find the forum through a note in the handbook did you?

the oil filter's easy enough to spot and change if you get the front end in the air. If memory serves it's under the front bank's exhaust manifold
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
