Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,
On my way home last night and half way up a long steep hill car decided to lose power, the light came on the dash so at the top of the hill i pulled over and scanned ecu for faults, my code reader is a very cheap thing but has diagnosed other probelms very well in the past, anyway its showing 2 faults p0380 which i know about and a new one p0243 which i belive is the waste gate from the turbo, do you have any ideas why this may be occuring and more importantly how i could fix it?
am i right in saying this fault must have occured before if it brings the light on the dashboard?
just to add to the story i towed caravan yesterday but only about a mile and wondered if this may have contributed to the problem,
Also must add the previously bad advice from 2 local garages told me that my turbo had blown when in actual fact it was a rocker arm shattered due to a timing belt slip, so after 2 weeks last year i decided to take off the turbo and replace it with a second hand one,
What is the wategate please? although i'm not a trained mech i will have a go at fixing it if i can, thanks in advance for your help guys.
its 2.0 hdi 110bhp dw10(i think)

Re: turbo wastegate problem....help please
Some Googling reveals P0243 to be the Solenoid(s) on the bulkhead controling the wastegate and the EGR valve. Since you were running full boost up a hill I would go for the Turbo solenoid.
You could either swap them over (they're supposed to be the same) or enquire about replacing it/them.

What light?Loveslug wrote:the light came on the dash
It's a pneumatically actuated valve logically on the engine exhaust end of the turbocharger which can effectively direct exhaust gas around the turbo instead of through it in order to reduce intake pressure when it's not wanted (eg. when you take your foot off the pedal). What is the wategate please?

thanks for the suggestions guys, when i went out and started the car the problem seemed to have dissappeared?? the light has also now gone off. very strange but i will keep my eyes and ears open for the problem re occuring, the only thing i did do was briefly remove the two pipes as suggested but i put them back on immediately, very strange. thanks again guys.
